I am one of those athletes that doesn't really believe that I am a true athlete, let alone any good at it. I do what I do because I like the way it makes me feel in many ways. I work as hard as I want to work, but I do my own thing and really don't care what the objective opinion is from others of my abilities.
That said, I have to say that when I was told this week, after a couple of hours of in-depth analysis that included computer-generated testing, by a trainer at my fitness club that my metabolic age is less than 35 years and that I have the relative muscle endurance of an 18 year old, my own opinion of myself changed...drastically.
This was even more poignant considering that the trainer is a 15 year veteran in the field, which lends more credence to her excitement over my numbers.
WOW!!
Admittedly, there were some less flattering items that came up in the analysis. But, all of the things that came up are issues that are easily addressed by vitamin and mineral supplements along with proper guided training.
Bottom line: even with my hiatus from training, I apparently am still in excellent shape.
Now, if only I could quick throwing my back out. That alone will make training for a half-marathon quite difficult.
On a short sabbatical from all activity until tomorrow morning when I will attempt to participate in a 25+ mile bike ride with the Austin Cycling Meetup.
Until then, you can find me vertical and still as a board.
